Dominican Republic provides an assortment of paragliding sceneries, ranging from rough hardcore thermic conditions in the arid areas of the south west (Galvan) to the mild and docile wide thermals of the central valleys (Casabito) and everything in between. Distance flying is fun, with plenty of landing options, friendly farmers and tons of kids willing to help pack your glider. Three mountain ranges peaking at 3200, 2200 and 2000 meters run parallel to each other from east to west, with flyable 20-kms-wide valleys in between. The amazing terrain arrangement creates localized micro climates that your experienced guide will be able to exploit to make sure you are in the right place at the right time every day. Longest flights range in the 100+ kms for free distance, 120+ kms for out-and-return and 70+ kms triangles. To top it all, several coastal soaring sites with amazing views and beaches are close by the XC sites. Most takeoffs lie within one and a half hours drive from each other.
Dominican Republic shares an island with it's neighbor country Haiti. The island is called Hispaniola, one of the Major Antilles and home to Santo Domingo, the first colonial settlement in the Americas, discovered by Christopher Colombus in 1492. The island is over 400 km long and 200 km wide and offers a lot more than the typical beach side hotel resort. In fact, you'll stay out of tourist areas in the east and north and --instead-- explore the real Dominican Republic in the center and the south west coast.
The tour is about discovery and exploration, experiencing the warmth of Dominicans, their love for music, humbleness and willingness to live life to the fullest. It is aimed at independent pilots of all levels, and non-flying companions can join too. Your guide will be able to coach the less experienced to help them stay in the air longer, and guide the more experienced along our classic XC routes. Expect a hassle free PG vacation where all the important bits are taken care of: site and weather briefings, XC guidance and coaching, retrieves and transportation, hotel accommodation and assistance from our staff in case of emergencies or hassles of any sort. Make sure you pack your shorts, swimsuit and sunscreen...
Beach days, mountain and river trekks, night life.
In the event of unflyable weather we offer various alternative activities in the outdoors or visit cultural events such as carnival parades or local festivities.
Our standard package includes accommodation in a shared double room. It is possible to arrange a single room in case you are traveling alone or prefer some more privacy. Because we stay away from tourist areas, we normally stay at hotels that cater to local sales people and business travelers. Most of them are two-star like hotels, with Wi-Fi, AC and all the basic amenities. Because the tour is about exploration, we tend to move to two or three different hotels during one week in order to avoid long road trips.
