We will be hopping from spot to spot but you can count on consistent weather, nice & easy takeoffs, big fat thermals marked by friendly condors and topped with puffy cumulus clouds. On our main destinations - Governador Valadares - the landing field is just a couple of minutes walk from our hotel and there are plenty of options for safe landing on the XC route and helpful locals offering you a ride back to the city from wherever you land.

Brazil needs no introducion: friendly people, delicious food, ice-cold caipirinhas, stunning views, sandy beaches. Dip in the Atlantic Ocean, flying with good mates, condors and seagulls, you name it! We will be moving between the best locations in South East Brazil to give you the chance to get to know at least 4 out of the top paragliding spots of the region. The main spots we will be visiting include: Rio de Janeiro, Sampaio Correia, Baixo Guandu, Castelo and Governador Valadares.
The adventure starts in Rio de Janeiro, and we will be doing our best to make the epic flight to the statue of Cristo Redentor happen to you as well! We offer you the unique opportunity to stay in one of Rio’s favelas, an experience you will never forget! Favela Vidigal is safe, has a cool atmosphere and a perfect location between Sao Conrado, where we will be flying, and the famous beaches of Leblon and Ipanema. We guarantee you proper guiding, safety and accomodation in a cosy hostel with a breathtaking view over the city! We will spend most of our time flying the amazing skies above Governador Valadares. This flying mecca for pilots from all over the world, here in Brazil is referred to as the Hawaii of free flying. Valadares has all a free-flier need to be happy, really! You will be able to try your best going XC and once you are back in the city there is plenty to do, plenty to see and plenty of people to meet. The only issue in Valadares is that there never seems to be enough time to sleep at night. No wonder this site is constantly hosting many paragliding and hang gliding competitions, including couple of PWCs and World Air Games. Additionally we are planning to spend a couple of days flying in different well known paragliding spots like Baixo Guandu, Pancas or the cliffs near Prado.
We believe that due to th kind of flying, excellent infrastructure and super-friendly people you do not need organised retrieval during this trip. We suggest that you return to the hotel on your own, which in the places we will visit is really easy. Most of the time we will be coming back as a group anyway. In Brazil coming back home after flying can be a fantastic adventure in itself. We will tell you all about it and of course we will be be at your disposal in case you need any assistance or prefer to be picked up at the end of the day. Regular retrievals from longer XC flights will be organised uppon your specific request.
Day 1 - Day 3: Rio de Janeiro
We meet in Rio de Janeiro and spend some quality time flying from the amazing Pedra Bonita in Sao Conrado. Landing on the beach you can spend the rest of the day enjoying the sun on the beach, or you can go up and fly again in the afternoon. If the conditions are favorable, we will go flying also in Niteroi, which offers different, but equally amazing views. In the evenings or on non-flyable parts of the day we go out together to get to know this amazing city. Needless to say, if there is a slightest weather window appropriate for it, we will take you for every paraglider pilot's dream flight: from Pedra Bonita to Crist the Redeemer and back :)
Day 3 - Day 6: Sampaio Correia
Within less than 2 hour drive from the city of Rio de Janeiro we have discovered freeflier's hidden paradise. You will have everything you might need on your flying holidays packed in one place: fantastic flying possibilities, great pension run by a local pilot and ex-brazilian paragliding champion (air-conditioned rooms, swimming pool, hammocks all over the place, great breakfasts, lively atmosphere, landing field right next to it - all that only 20 minutes away from the take-off). Flying in Sampaio Correia offers good options for all skill and ambition levels, be it big XC in the mountains, or local flying with a possibility to glide towards the beach and land just in front of a cool beach bar. Wherever you land, someone is already on his way to pick you up and drive you up the mountain again, or deliver you stright to the beach bar :) Before we head inland we will organise a proper Brazilian BBQ with traditional Picanha steaks you will never forget!
Day 7 - Day 13: Inland
Depending on the weather we will either head for Baixo Guandu, Castelo or Governador Valadares next. During the second week of our tour we will visit at least two of the above three top-class flying spots and spend most of our time in the air. We are going to work on perfecting our thermalling and gaggle flying skills and try to cover as much distance as possible.
Day 14: back in Rio
We travel back to Rio by night in a comfy air-conditioned bus, where seats fold down so that you can sleep comfortably. How you spend your last day in Brazil is up to you. We either take you sightseeing and shopping or we go flying :)
Itineraries are not binding and the actual itinerary can be adjusted by the host because of unforeseen circumstances or other reasons!
When choosing accomodation in any given flying spot we give priority to good location and simplicity of all the logistics connected with flying. We either stay in pousadas (B&B) run by paraglider pilots who also offer us pickup to the take-offs and extra retrieve service or in simple but well located hotels. In Rio we stay in a hostel-style accomodation in private rooms for 3 people each. In Valadares we typically stay in hotel Sao Salvador*** in air-conditioned rooms. The hotel is simple but clean and very well located just by the landing field. There are 2 or 3 individual beds and a bathroom in each of the rooms we have pre-booked. There are also single rooms with double beds or bigger appartments available for a small additional fee.
A room shared between two or three people. Each person has a separate bed. Air-conditioned. A room without air-conditioning, just with a fan, can be arranged uppon request.
If you wish to stay in a single room throughout the whole trip, just let us know beforehand and we'll have it arranged for a small additional fee.
