The climate on the coast is typically Mediterranean with mild, wet winters and warm, sunny, and rather dry summers. Inland conditions vary depending on elevation, but the higher areas above 1500m are rather cold and frequently snowy in winter; here cold conditions with snow may linger into spring. We will be flying on the best season and therefore strong thermals and gentle sea breeze will be well mixed in this trip. We will use several takeoffs from 400 to 1000m above sea level, and explore both coastal and inland spots according to the conditions and your flying skills.

The Destination

Albania, located on Southeastern Europe’s Balkan Peninsula, is a small country with Adriatic and Ionian coastlines and an interior crossed by the Albanian Alps. Albania has natural beauty in such abundance that you might wonder why it took 20 years for the country to take off as a tourist destination since the end of communism. Albania offers a remarkable array of unique attractions, not least due to this very isolation: ancient mountain codes of behaviour, forgotten archaeological sites and villages where time seems to have stood still are all on the menu. With its stunning mountain scenery, a thriving capital in Tirana and beaches to rival any elsewhere in the Mediterranean, Albania has become the sleeper hit of the Balkans.

The Experience

This is a new highlight for adventure lovers! If you feel bored from the restricted areas, here you can feel like in paradise. Enjoy freedom without borders!

Starting from the capital Tirana we travel the inland of Albania. On our way south we visit different spots in wild, untouched mountains. In this original landscape, XC flyers need creativity. During our journey through Albania we will have the chance to visit some UNESCO protected cities. Later on, closer to the southern Greek border we will reach another highlight point: the traditional cuisine! Friendly people and welcome slogans will be always around. Our tour continues along the coast back to the north. We will then find spectacular spots, where the mountains fall directly into the deep blue of the Ionian sea. To close in big style and great contrast, we will fly over Tirana. Here we can find the most famous summer clubs of Albania, for relaxing after-flights.

Accommodation

Accommodation consists of shared rooms between 2-3 pilots in the main hotels of the areas where we are going to fly. It includes all the amenities you would expect from a regular hotel.
